The memory of the holy martyrs: Agafonicus, Zoticus, Theoprepios, Aquinas, Severian and others with them

The martyr Agaphonis lived in Nicomedia, a city in the northeastern corner of the bay formed by the Marmara Sea. It was built in 264 B.C. and named after the Viennese king Nicomedes I.

At the site of ancient Nicomedia is now the city of Ismid.] during the reign of Emperor Maximian [Maximian Hercules, who bore the title of Augustus, was a co-ruler of Diocletian and ruled the western half of the Roman Empire from 285.

305 C.E.); he turned the Hellenes away from idolatry and led them to Christ; he was taken to be tortured by Eutolmius.

When this comit, sent by the emperor to the country of Pontus to torture Christians, sailed on a ship and arrived at a place called Carpinus, he found there the holy Zotichus with the disciples who had confessed to Christ; his disciples were condemned to death by the cross by his comit Eutolmy, and the holy Zotichus he took with him.

When he returned to Nicomedia, he took a certain Principus, who had been taught the Christian faith by St. Agaphonicus, and bound him, together with Agaphonicus, Zothicus, and the other Christians, among whom were Theoprepius, Aninidus, and Severian, and led them all to Thrace, where the emperor himself had come to betray them all.

The pain.

When the saints were in the country called Potama, the comet betrayed the deaths of St. Zotichus, Theoprepios and Aquinas, for they could no longer walk because of the wounds and sores they had received before; and having come into the vicinity of Chalcedon [Chalcedon or, more correctly, Chalcedon <unk> originally a colony of the Magyars on the coast

The sea of marble.

During the reign of the Christian emperors, Chalcedon was the capital of the province of Bithynia in Asia Minor. In the history of the Christian Church, Chalcedon is notable as the site of the IV Ecumenical Council, convened in 451.

And the rest of the martyrs, with St. Agaphonicus, he led to Byzantium, and there tortured them for a time; and afterwards he came with them to Slimvryum, to a place called Ammus, where Maximian was;

Here is the holy martyr Agaponicus, as well as all the Christians brought with him from Nicomedia, who were the last to be persecuted and tortured, after which they were condemned to death and beheaded, suffering for the name of Christ, our God.
